Paramedic Released After Baby Dies During Ambulance Transport
Local Health Authorities Face Scrutiny After Urgent Meeting
A paramedic has been released from his duties following the tragic death of a baby who was delivered in an ambulance in Sandanski. The termination of the contract was a mutual decision between the paramedic and the regional director of the Emergency Service, Dr. Krasimir Mihailov. The dismissal occurred before the results of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
According to Dr. Mihailov, violations were discovered during an internal inspection relating to the keeping of medical records.
“In the course of the inspection itself, findings were made that there was a violation of discipline in terms of keeping medical records, which is soldering me to terminate the contract of the colleague in question.” Dr. Mihailov, quoted by BNR, explained further, ”
Also, in view of the fact that a truly significant tension was created, I believe that he would not be able to perform his duties well. So we reached a mutual agreement to terminate his employment contract.”
Adding to the complexity of the situation is theAnimpacted paramedic’s extensive experience in the Emergency Service. Stoicho Dairajiev, who had even been one of the founders of the Association of Medical Paramedics 42 years ago.
Public outcry following the incident prompted an extraordinary session of the Municipal Council in Sandanski, scheduled for December 2. During this meeting, officials will discuss the operational practices of South-Western Hospital, aiming to identify and address any underlying issues contributing to the tragedy.
The investigation into the death of the infant is expected to conclude next week.
The event has sparked a heated debate about patient care and the urgent need for comprehensive review and potential reforms within the region’s healthcare system.
