Un Golden Friday. Frenchman Benjamin Daviet, from Haute-Savoie, won gold in the individual biathlon (standing category) on Friday at the Beijing Winter Paralympics, his second title at these Games. On the slopes of the northern site of Zhangjiakou, the native of Annecy dominated the Canadian Mark Arendz and the Ukrainian Grygorii Vovchynskyi. French flag bearer at the opening ceremony, Benjamin Daviet had already won the Paralympic title in cross-country sprint skiing on Wednesday.
French snowboarder Maxime Montaggioni also won the banked slalom title on Friday (UL category). On the Genting snowpark, the 32-year-old from Nice beat the Chinese Ji Lijia and Zhu Yonggang. Former taekwondo specialist, born without a right forearm, Maxime Montaggioni was already multiple snowboard world champion. There he obtained the first Paralympic title of his career.
France now has nine medals (including six gold) at these Games, which places it in 4e country ranking rank.
