Which of the Ukrainians won medals on the first day of the 2024 Paralympics

All awards at the start of the Games were won in swimming.

Anton Kohl (100 m, backstroke, class S1) and Iryna Poida (200 m, freestyle, class S5) won silver.

And the bronze awards went to Anna Gontar (50 meters, freestyle, class S6) and Oleksandr Komarov (200m, freestyle, class S5).

It should be noted that on August 29, competitions were held in 12 sports: bocce, goalball, archery, badminton, bicycle track, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, shot put, sitting volleyball, basketball and rugby.

What is Ukraine’s position at the 2024 Paralympics after the first day

In the medal standings after the first day of competition, Ukraine is in first place 17th place.

The championship is held by China – representatives of this country won four gold awards during the day.

Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and France are also in the top 5.

Ukrainians at the Paralympics

We will remind that at the 2024 Paralympic Games Ukraine will be represented by 140 athletes: 96 men and 44 women.

Of the 140 Paralympians included in the application, 101 have musculoskeletal disorders, 30 have visual impairments, and nine have mental and physical developmental disabilities.

More than 23% of the members of the national team are debutants of the Paralympic Games. Athletes represent 20 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv. They will compete in 17 out of 22 sports (this is a record in the Paralympic history of our country).

We will remind that at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. Ukraine then became sixth in the medal standings.
