Asunción, IP Agency.- During the 2024 Spring Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Valdovinos, highlighted the country’s strengths and opportunities in the field of production green.
In the discussion titled “Paraguay: from macroeconomic stability to the destination of green investments”, Minister Valdovinos highlighted the macroeconomic stability and green production capacity of Paraguay.
According to Fernández Valdovinos, Paraguay has the potential to become an important regional center for biofuels, including bioethanol and biodiesel, thus contributing to global food security.
One of the highlights was the binational Itaipú hydroelectric plant, which is presented as the largest dam producing clean and renewable energy in Paraguay. The minister pointed out that 100% of the country’s electricity comes from clean and renewable energy sources, thus achieving the desired green transition by 2050, already achieved in 2024.
The minister emphasized the importance of continued support from multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support the measures and reforms implemented by Paraguay towards a greener economy.
