Paraguayan territory receives income from the first waters of the Pilcomayo River

Asunción, IP Agency.- The waters of the Pilcomayo River began to enter the national territory since Saturday, October 12, as a result of the latest rains recorded in the upper basin, Bolivia, reported the director of the National Commission for Regulation and Multiple Use of the Pilcomayo River Basin ( CNRP), Darío Medina.

Medina explained that they opened the wall at the mouth starting Saturday night, to allow the entry of the rebound from Bolivia. Although the current flow is not of great magnitude, its importance was highlighted to evaluate the work carried out in recent months.

He pointed out that it is crucial to verify the cleaning, deepening and widening tasks of the canal in the water intake that distributes the flow between the Argentine Republic and Paraguay.

Works almost ready

The National Commission of the Pilcomayo River carried out important conditioning works in several sections of the river within Paraguayan territory. In that sense, he said that the work from the mouth to the General Díaz bridges was completed, with very little remaining to be executed in the three planned work lots, added the director of the Commission.

He maintained that the early entry of waters is encouraging news, although more rainfall will be needed to maintain a permanent flow. He added that they expect the rains to continue both in the upper basins of Bolivia and in the national territory, in order to somewhat alleviate the drought that affects the communities of the Pilcomayo River basin.

At the same time, work is being done to repair roads in the area of La Pava and Pelícano, to facilitate access and communication in the region. The commission maintains permanent contact with local populations, providing them with updated information on the entry of water into Paraguayan territory.

Although this first entry of water is promising, the national director of Pilcomayo clarified that it is not yet the expected annual flood. Normally, the major flood begins in December and this advance allows us to immediately evaluate the effectiveness of the work carried out and better prepare for the important rainy season, Medina reiterated.

The CNRP will continue to closely monitor the water situation and keep the population informed about developing conditions in the Pilcomayo River basin, urging residents of affected areas to stay tuned for official updates.
