Asuncion, IP Agency.- An outstanding performance by Alejandra Alonso and Javier Insfrán this Sunday allowed them to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympic Games.
Both competed in the repechage from 09:00 local time at the Vaires-Sur-Narme Nautical Stadium.
Alejandra Alonso was the first in the women’s single sculls and took first place in her heat, gaining almost 10 seconds ahead of her closest competitor with her time of 07:57.14.
Meanwhile, Javier Insfrán came second in his round with a time of 07:08.29 and secured his place in the quarterfinals.
Both will compete again this Tuesday, July 30 at 03:30 and 04:10 (Paraguayan time), respectively.

Yesterday Gabriela Narváez made history for Paraguay at the Olympic Games being the first athlete in an individual sport to finish in the top eight and win an Olympic Diploma.
The judoka finished 7th after losing in the quarterfinals to Baasankhuu Bavuudorj of Mongolia, who took the silver medal in the competition, and in the repechage duel against Abiba Abuzhakynova of Kazakhstan, who finished 5th in the tournament.
It was also a great day for the Albirroja U23s, who beat Israel 4-2 in stoppage time and are now in the fight to advance to the next phase.
The Paraguayan delegation’s competitions continue this Monday, July 29, with the debut of the duo Giuliana Poletti and Michelle Valiente against Canada.
Matheo Mateos will compete on Thursday 1st August in the 200m medley swimming event, starting at 05:40. Fabrizio Zanotti will do the same in golf that day starting at 03:00. On Friday 2nd August it will be the turn of Xenia Hiebert and Cesar Almirón in the 100m and 200m athletics events.
