A senior Paraguayan official was dismissed from his position for signing a cooperation memorandum advocating the opening of diplomatic relations with a country… which does not exist.

Arnaldo Chamorro, former chief of staff at the Ministry of Agriculture, himself announced to the press on Thursday that he had been dismissed the day before, following having signed an agreement in October with representatives of the “United States of Kailasa”, a so-called island in the north of South America.
“They came, and they expressed the wish to help Paraguay, they presented several projects, we listened to them and that’s it,” explained the official, admitting to having been fooled.
The two “emissaries” were even received briefly by the minister, Carlos Gimenez, he said.
In the memorandum on the letterhead and seal of the ministry, the former chief of staff said “congratulate the honorable Nithyananda Paramashivam, ruler of the United States of Kailasa and appreciate his contributions to Hinduism, humanity and the Republic of Paraguay.
It recommends “that the government of Paraguay actively explores the establishment of diplomatic relations with the United States of Kailasa, and supports its admission as a sovereign state within various international organizations, including the United Nations.”
According to several Paraguayan media, the “sovereign” in question of Kailasa is in reality an Indian national, wanted by the justice system of his country.
The ministry denounced in a press release “procedural errors” by the former official concerning a document “which cannot be considered official” and which was produced “without authorization (…) nor the required competence”.
He therefore ensures “rejecting any type of legal or administrative obligation” towards “the said organization”.
