Paraguayan delegation in Korea explores smart city infrastructure with a view to future investments

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Members of the mission led by Government and Itaipu authorities visited the Smart City Infrastructure Control Center and the facilities of Kepco (Korea Electric Power Corporation), with the aim of exploring the real-world application of Smart City infrastructure for future investment opportunities in Paraguay.

The delegation is made up of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez; the Vice Minister of Energy, Mauricio Bejarano; the Paraguayan General Director, Justo Zacarías Irún; the General Director of Industrial Policy of the MIC, Aníbal Giménez; the Vice Director of the Task Paraguay Center, José Kim; the Advisor on Electric Mobility, Luis López Lafuente; the Financial Director, Rafael Lara; and the Executive Director of the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI-PY), Carlos Mercado.

Kepco is South Korea’s main state-owned electricity company, responsible for the generation and marketing of electric energy in the Asian country. During their tour, the Paraguayan delegation had the opportunity to observe closely how Kepco implements a comprehensive system that includes intelligent monitoring, loss control, energy theft prediction, billing, prepayment and electronic payments, all in a unified platform.

The delegation also visited the Nuriflex Smart Meters production plant in South Korea, where they were welcomed by the company’s president, Naju Jeollanamdo.

It is worth mentioning that Nuriflex officially presented the launch of a factory in Paraguay, after some investment attraction meetings held by the MIC, so the objective of the visit to the headquarters is to learn about the various products and the possibilities of expanding manufacturing in Paraguay for distribution in the regional market.

It is one of the industries that manufactures and assembles not only meters, but also a whole line of products such as single-phase, three-phase, industrial meters, data concentrator units (DCU), public lighting, communication modules (modem), MDM, engineering, IT and software.

This company has already completed the first stage of its investment process in Paraguay, with the installation of an assembly plant for AMI smart meters in the city of Mariano Roque Alonso, which began a process of investment and development of new technologies and new markets in our country.

During the tour of the company’s headquarters in the Asian country, the authorities were able to learn about the manufacturing process and see first-hand the industrial, economic, social and technological advances, which will open the possibility of developing new technology made in Paraguay to export to the Mercosur region and Latin America, reported the MIC.
