Paraguayan cannabis conquers Europe: the European market buys all flower production

Asunción, IP Agency.- The industrial cannabis sector in Paraguay continues to advance strongly, marking an important achievement in its expansion towards Eastern Europe. As reported by Marcelo Demp, president of the Paraguayan Industrial Cannabis Chamber (CCIP), the entire production of premium cannabis flowers planned for 2024 has been acquired by the European market.

This international agreement is the result of a process that began earlier this year, when a shipment of cannabis flowers was sent as a sample to Europe.

The excellent quality of the product was decisive for its acceptance, which motivated European businessmen to visit Paraguay. During their stay, they not only confirmed the purchase, but also offered advanced technology to improve the conservation and transportation of flowers.

One of the technological innovations introduced by European entrepreneurs is freeze-drying, a process that allows fresh flowers to be frozen at -30 degrees in refrigerated containers. This method ensures that the product reaches Europe maintaining its freshness and quality, which is key for its marketing in demanding markets.

The plantations that will supply this agreement are located in towns such as Areguá, Nueva Italia, Iruña and Hernandarias.

Although the total production volume cannot yet be precisely determined due to variability in crop yields, a minimum production of 5 tons per hectare is estimated, which could generate income of approximately $25,000 per hectare.

Despite this success, Demp pointed out that current production is not enough to cover growing European demand, which has led the CCIP to look for new producers interested in joining the cultivation of industrial cannabis. The objective is to increase productive capacity and consolidate Paraguay’s position in this expanding global sector.

Since the approval of legislation on industrial cannabis in 2019, the industry in Paraguay has shown exponential growth. In just a few years, the country has exported more than 600 tons of products and raw materials to different international destinations. In addition, the sector has diversified its offer, including derived products such as gummies and infusions, consolidating Paraguay as a key player in the global industrial cannabis market.
