COP mission chief Larissa Schaerer has issued a statement explaining why Alonso must leave the French capital. “Your presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank you for proceeding as instructed, as it was of your own free will that you did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”

The Paraguayan swimmer participated in her second Olympic Games, after the ones in Tokyo, where she made her debut at the age of 17. In Paris, she competed in the 100-meter butterfly event, in which she was eliminated in heat one, after finishing in sixth position.

The Olympic swimmer announced her retirement through her social networks. “Swimming: thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline and many other things.

“I gave you a part of my life and I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world because I lived the best experiences of my life, you gave me thousands of joys, friends from other countries that I will always carry in my heart, unique opportunities. It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you soon,” said the swimmer.
