Paraguay receives blood-derived medicines through plasma export

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health received 4,615 vials of 20% Human Serum Albumin and 1,016 vials of 5-gram intravenous immunoglobulin, which are blood-derived medicines, as compensation for the export of tons of blood plasma to the National University of Córdoba, Argentina.

These medicines are produced with surplus plasma exported to Argentina, through an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the University of Córdoba.

The shipment is for use by the health portfolio, the Social Security Institute (IPS) and the Hospital de Clínicas (UNA) as compensation for the plasma contributions of 2023, said Dr. Nelson Marquez, from the National Blood Program.

Intravenous immunoglobulin is used in patients with various conditions such as primary immunodeficiencies, hematological and inflammatory diseases, neuromuscular disorders and to treat certain infections. Human Serum Albumin is used in patients with liver cirrhosis, gastrointestinal disorders, edema associated with hypoproteinemia, among others.

This important exchange demonstrates that collaborative work and efficiency can converge to benefit the health of the population, setting a positive precedent for future international collaborations in the field of health, the Ministry of Public Health stressed.
