Paraguay and Brazil share strategic vision on a gas pipeline that crosses the Paraguayan Chaco

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Authorities from the Government of Paraguay and the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, discussed the strategic importance of developing a gas pipeline that crosses the Paraguayan Chaco region, boosting energy integration and competitiveness in the region.

A delegation from Paraguay, headed by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, together with businessmen and other authorities, presented to the governor of Mato Grosso, Eduardo Riedel, the project to implement a gas pipeline that will connect the countries of South America with the Brazilian state.

This project presented for a new “energy corridor” would connect Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and could reach Chile, following the same steps as the bioceanic route in this new Atlantic and Pacific connection, highlighted the Brazilian governor.

“I was recently in the Paraguayan Chaco, where we visited and evaluated new economic perspectives for the region. (Natural) gas is a great asset to boost and enhance the development of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is a strategic agenda for the state and the country,” acknowledged the governor.

Minister Giménez said that the state of Mato Grosso do Sul is a partner of Paraguay and stressed that the governor has a clear and strategic vision for the industrialization of the state.

“Just like Paraguay, logistics, energy and trade issues are of utmost importance. We hope that this dialogue will continue to advance,” said the minister.

Businessman Giuliano Franco, CEO of Zeus Energy, said that the meeting was very productive and that the new gas pipeline project will be a strategic option for Paraguay, Mato Grosso do Sul and all of Brazil.

“Natural gas is becoming an alternative to guarantee Brazil’s energy security, a very competitive option that will contribute to the development of state industries as well as agricultural production,” he said.

He stressed that initially this (natural) gas would come from Argentina, passing through Paraguay and entering Mato Grosso do Sul through Puerto Murtinho.

“This would connect it to the Brazilian gas system. A second stage could come from gas production in Paraguay, which has great potential but still lacks infrastructure and investment,” he added.
