Exploitation of oil reserves and the world’s increase in fuel continue to be one of the main undertakings for the development of several regions, such as Pará, which is on the route of oil production in deep waters. Recent advances in studies and activities for extracting oil and gas in deep waters in countries close to Pará have made the state emerge as a potential new economic frontier. Pará, protected by a large swath of the Amazon rainforest, is the second largest Brazilian state in terms of land area, bordering the states of Amapá, Maranhão, Tocantins, Mato Grosso and Roraima, and the countries Suriname and Guyana.
In early May, in Houston, United States, the “Offshore Tecnology Conference” (OCT), bringing together more than 24,000 energy professionals from nearly 100 countries, for debates on technical and scientific knowledge relevant to oil and gas exploration and production, as well as environmental issues. The conference is basically a fair where oil companies from all over the world present their technologies through discussion forums regarding what is happening and what is expected to happen.
According to the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará – FIEPA, its Unions and the Center of Industries of Pará – CIP, for many years, entities have been fighting for oil and gas exploration to take place on its continental shelf, both in the Pará Basin /Maranhão and in the Pará/Amapá Basin.
The state of Pará has fields on the equatorial margin, on the border with French Guiana, which are being explored once more. These fields were discovered many years ago and for political reasons and other situations, they were stopped by Petrobras. “The entities in Pará are very involved, wanting to bring operations to the region, as the field is very large and with production potential, which contributes to the development of the State, as all the service will be through Belém, which will move the company a lot. city, outside the royaltieswhich the city receives for the exploration”, explains Alexandre Freire, business lawyer, partner at Bastos Freire Advogados.
Also according to Alexandre Freire, with the return of Petrobras, the state of Pará will attract more investors, businessmen and politicians interested in the growth of the region. “This exploration will be important, for us to defend a powerful Amazon, and for us to fight the advance of civilization, with the objective of protecting the goods of nature”.
