Para Chinar: Decision to take vehicles in security convoy

After demonstrations and foot marches in Para Chinar, the main town of the tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the district administration has decided to partially open the road that has been closed for several days and take the vehicles in the form of a security convoy.

An official of the police control room of Upper Karam told Independent Urdu that ‘after the Para Chinar protest, the district administration has decided to take the vehicles to the Til Para Chinar Road in a security convoy.’

He said that ‘this process will continue for 10 days and at a certain time of the day, the vehicles were taken to different areas of Para Chinnar with security vehicles.’

The official added: ‘The highway is still closed for vehicles without a secured convoy and only convoys are allowed.’

Regarding the foot march, Anjuman Hussainiya leader Tajumal Hasan Agha said on Friday that the government has promised to open the road while the future plan of action will be announced after the Jirga held today.

Tajumal Hasan Aang told the media that last day 206 vehicles were allowed to enter Para Chinar by the government, while the road has been promised to be opened in the future as well.

He said: ‘We have started the protest in a peaceful manner and so far the road has been opened but today in our Jirga the action plan will be announced in case the road is blocked again.’

Anjuman Hussainiya Para Chinar had started a foot march on Thursday against the closure of the main highway for the past 22 days.

He marched on foot for a distance of 25 km and reached Samira area, where he staged a sit-in.

According to the district administration, Karam district has been in the grip of land disputes for the past few months, these disputes take a communal form and the situation reaches clashes.

Many people have been killed in these clashes while land routes and roads are also closed.

The clashes are then stopped with the help of pollinators, but after some time the same conflict starts again.

The recent dispute and the subsequent closure of the main highway leading to Para Chinar came to light when a local man from Muqbal area of Kurram district was shot at by unknown assailants along with his family in a vehicle.

According to the police, 14 people were killed in this incident, including three women and two children, while two attackers were killed in the retaliatory firing by the security forces.

In view of the tense situation in Karam after the incident, the district administration had closed the main highway leading to Para Chinnar, causing severe hardship to the people of the area.
