Markus Salcher is a man with ambitions. This is particularly obvious when you look at the sporting vita of the 30-year-old from Carinthia: seven Paralympics medals, umpteen World Cup medals and World Cup successes. Alpine skiing is his profession, where Salcher is one of the most successful para athletes in Austria. If the ambitions are limited to sports, they are usually bland because they are interchangeable. “I want at least everyone to know the difference between the Paralympics and the Special Olympics,” said the skier ahead of the competitions in Beijing. On the first two days he won two silver medals (downhill and super-G), and he also wants to start in the giant slalom.
