The submissions of the proposals in the context of the four actions to strengthen entrepreneurship concerning the continental areas of the Territorial Plans of Just Transition, for the entire region of Western Macedonia and for the municipalities of Megalopolis, Oichalia, Gortynia and Tripoli in the region of Peloponnese, were completed with absolute success.
These actions cover existing, new and being established small, medium and large enterprises, with the total public funding amounting to 280 million euros.
A total of 136 investment project applications were submitted with a total submitted public expenditure of almost 393 million euros, exceeding the initial target by 40%.
In particular, for the strengthening of investment plans of existing small and medium enterprises, the submitted applications for the whole of Western Macedonia exceeded 118% of the total available expenditure, reaching 100 million euros. Whereas, the corresponding applications for the municipalities of Megalopoli, Tripoli, Gortynia and Oichalia exceeded by 42% the total available expenditure, approaching 28 million euros.
For the support of investment projects of new and small and medium-sized enterprises under establishment, the submitted applications for the whole of Western Macedonia exceeded the available public expenditure by 330%, exceeding 150 million euros. The corresponding submitted applications for the municipalities of Megalopoli, Tripoli, Gortynia and Oichalia exceeded 42 million euros, exceeding public expenditure by 216%.
At the same time, for the first time, a co-financed program of the NSRF attempts to support large companies with the main axes being innovation and the creation of new jobs. A total of six large companies, three new and three existing, utilizing the financial possibilities of the DAM Program 2021-2027, submitted investment plans of more than 73 million euros for the areas of the Territorial Plans of Just Transition of Western Macedonia and Megalopolis.
The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, underlined: “We continue to fully implement our commitments, channeling every available euro into the economy and society of the Just Development Transition regions, with the aim of supporting entrepreneurship, covering the investment gap caused by the economic crisis, and, of course, the creation of more and better-paid jobs. At the same time, it is proven in practice that similar actions promote the Green and Digital transition, contributing to the overall social cohesion and prosperity of the new era.
The excess of available resources, and indeed in these percentages, signals the common ground between the practical support of businesses, especially small and medium ones, by the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the high interest shown by the investment community. We continue the relentless implementation of our program with the aim of a sustainable development for all our fellow citizens”.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Special Service of the Just Developmental Transition, Pelopidas Kalliris, emphasized: “The energy transition of our country is now emerging in practice as a unique investment opportunity for the affected areas. With the end of the submission of the investment project applications, the interest of the business community in the development of the energy transition areas is demonstrated. The excess of available resources by 40% proves the urgent need to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of the Greek economy. With these actions, we contribute to the economic stability and development of the Greek economy, ensuring that the just transition areas can develop and offer new jobs to all citizens. Indicatively, the submitted investment plans envisage the creation of more than 2,500 jobs, with 1,800 in Western Macedonia and 700 in the wider area of Megalopolis. Our commitment to supporting entrepreneurship in these areas remains unwavering, as they are a critical driver of our country’s economic prosperity and social cohesion.”
