Donny Neyra showed his best soccer level in 2008, when he became champion of the Opening Tournament with Universitario de Deportes. Now retired from the courts, the former national midfielder gave an interview for the program that Luis ‘Cuto’ Guadalupe has on Trome’s YouTube channel and told several anecdotes regarding his career.
Among them, he revealed that he hit Paolo Guerrero during a match between the youth categories of Cantolao and Alianza Lima.
“What happens is that we always saw each other because we crossed paths in the minor divisions. There was that rivalry but also an affinity. We have always competed and one day I put a ‘trip’ in Cantolao to ‘Pichirrín’ (Paolo Guerrero)”counted.
“It was that Alianza was beating us, on my court, in Cantolao. I mightn’t lose. They won 1-0 with a goal from ‘Pichirrín’ (Guerrero). I go to a corner and return. So, I find him in midfield and I punched him in the face, cheeky. Teacher ‘Guty’ got in, the parents got in and the game ended”, he described.

Donny Neyra He also recalled his time in Lima Alliance and pointed out that Gustavo Costas, then coach of the blue and white team, did not have it in his plans.
“I liked having played in Alianza Lima, but I think I might have had better luck (…). There are internal things that might not be done, it was impossible to fight once morest that. When the coach doesn’t love you, he doesn’t love you. The president took me, but Gustavo Costas never wanted me”, he declared in said interview.
