Yesterday, Wednesday, we reported the judge’s decision to place Paolo Falzone on an electronic bracelet. The driver of the vehicle who killed several people during the carnival of Strépy-Bracquegnies will therefore be released from prison to continue his pre-trial detention in another undisclosed location.

This decision, to get the driver out of prison, caused a stir among the population. Vincent Macq, the king’s prosecutor for the Mons/Tournai district, affirms that the judge made this decision “in soul and conscience and in complete independence because she learned today an important element of the file which is that the automotive expertise will not be filed for several months“.
“So she considered that this abnormal duration for an investigation was too long to justify continued detention in prison. This is why she transformed this detention in prison into detention under electronic bracelet in a place which she determined in her order“.
Vincent Macq further specifies that it is not because Paolo Falzone is released from prison that he is a free man. It is even far from being the case. “It’s like any prisoner. She is deprived of the freedom to come and go. it will end up in a determined place with a perimeter strictly traced by beacons. He will be forbidden to leave this place under pain of an immediate return to the prison box. He remains deprived of liberty, but in a place other than prison which was chosen by the judge..”
