Last Monday, October 22, what promised to be a day of fun at the Parque del Café, located in Quindío, turned into a tense experience for 18 tourists who were trapped at the top.or the roller coaster.
An unexpected electrical failure stopped the attraction’s journey, forcing the occupants to remain suspended at a high altitude while park staff implemented safety protocols.
The 18 trapped passengers had to be evacuated on foot, walking cautiously along the rails of the structure. Fortunately, no injuries although some experienced panic attacks due to the height at which they were stranded.
The incident was documented on video by one of those affected, who recorded the moment in which the tourists descended, between nervous laughter and expressions of fear.
The images quickly went viral on social networks, generating various reactions about the safety of the attractions at the theme park.
Is it safe to visit the coffee park?
The park, which has operated for more than 20 years, has earned a reputation as a family destination. Although the park has a backup system, on this occasion it was not necessary to activate it. Fortunately, all occupants were evacuated without major complications, but the event has left a mark on public perception of safety in one of the country’s most important tourist destinations.
Although park officials clarified that the situation was handled following strict safety protocols, some tourists experienced moments of panic due to the height.
What did the Coffee Park say?
The park explained that the roller coaster’s automatic braking system prevented the cars from rolling back and causing a major emergency. Although it was not necessary to activate the electrical backup, the park reported that the evacuation was carried out following all proper procedures.
However, the viralization of the video on social networks has fueled the debate about the need to improve infrastructure in theme parks, both to guarantee safety and to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Local authorities, headed by the Secretary of the Government of Montenegro, Mauricio Cárdenas, assured that the park has well-established security protocols, which were activated immediately.
