Maybe in recent years the city of Kalavryta to be at the center of tourist development in Achaia with the Ski Center as a “vehicle”, but now moves are being made to stimulate other points in the wider area.
The city that is close to Kalavryta is Clitoria, which has its own history and route from antiquity to the present day. After the reconstruction that has been done in the center of the square, the next step for the municipal authority is to enter the “bay” of tourism, which will increase the number of visitors with multiple benefits for the local economy.
Through the deputy mayor of Klitoria Sotiris Douklias, a study is underway to create a museum in the area with a pan-Hellenic center of mythology and a digital representation of the Ancient Cleitor. The Ancient Cleitor, founded by Cleitor, son of King Azana, it was one of the largest and richest ancient cities. Many of its ruins (such as the ancient theater) are scattered in the great plain of Kleitoria and recent excavations have brought several finds to the surface.
Based on these findings, an effort is being made for Kleitoria to set up a landmark that will attract visitors from all over the world, especially those who are interested in Ancient Greece.
The center is expected to be set up in the building of the former Kleitoria Magistrate’s Court which, based on the study that is already in the process of being written, will be divided into two parts. One will house the mythology center and the other center with a digital representation of the Ancient Cleitor for the action of the past.
Regarding the issue, “Peloponnisos” contacted the deputy mayor Sotiris Doukliaswho said: We have assigned the study to a special office and we are waiting for it to be completed so that we can then secure the financing of the project.
The museum will be in the building of the former Peace Court and we want it to have two sections for the Ancient Cleitor and the mythology center that can be visited by schools. If the study is completed and the project is done, then we will boost traffic to Kleitoria for good, and that will help create new jobs that will help reduce the demographic hemorrhaging.”
