A South Korean vaccination specialist has sparked controversy in his country following a position that is as surprising as it is radical. This is how the local newspaper “The Korea Herald” summed it up: “The reason why you haven’t contracted Covid yet? Probably because you have no friends”…
This clear-cut opinion was posted on Facebook by doctor Ma Sang-hyuk, vice president of the South Korean Vaccination Society. “Adults who have not yet had Covid are those who have relationship problems,” he wrote precisely.
Faced with the outcry, the man deleted his post. Then he explained in the “New Daily” that he had been misunderstood and that it was only a personal opinion. He argued that his sentence should be understood “metaphorically” because he only wanted to “highlight the difficulty of avoiding the virus when there are so many cases”. He said he was sorry for the misunderstanding.
The Korean press, however, specifies that this doctor has already distinguished himself in the past for having considered that it was necessary to “live with” the virus and to devote himself fully to the search for a treatment rather than imposing rules of distancing.
“The Dauphine” note for its part that research by the Institut Pasteur had estimated at the start of the year that between 40 and 50% of the population had been infected with the coronavirus. It’s hard to believe that 50 to 60% of people don’t have friends…
