The federal government and the federal states will meet on Wednesday for another Corona summit. Advice should be given on further easing, but also whether the PCR tests should continue to be free of charge. The assessment of the Gecko crisis team set up by the government should also be decisive for further action. The day before, this gave the green light for further openings – on the condition that the peak of the current wave has actually been exceeded.

All forecast scenarios would show that following the so-called peak was exceeded, easing would have no significant impact, the Gecko experts wrote in a brief statement to the government. Some federal states in particular are pushing for this, all of which are taking part virtually at the summit on Wednesday. The deliberations are to begin following the Council of Ministers meeting, following which the public will be informed of the results in a press conference.
Another question that countries are putting pressure on is whether corona tests should continue to be free. Recently, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) – like Vorarlberg’s governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) – has spoken out in favor of an end. Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) had recently promised advice on the test strategy. Vienna, on the other hand, wants to keep the strategy.
