Japanese appliance manufacturer Panasonic filed seven lawsuits against Xiaomi and OPPO for infringing their patents on smartphone development.

The lawsuits are being filed in the Unified Patent Court (UPC), with Panasonic demanding that Chinese companies stop using its patents without proper authorization.

In addition, the company also asks for financial compensation for the use of its technologies in smartphones and other devices that have already been marketed by the Chinese.

With the opening of the processes, the cases will now be judged by the UPC in Munich, and most of the infringed patents involve wireless connection and 4G network.

OPPO has infringed about four patents involving smartphone communication with radiocommunication stations. On the other hand, Xiaomi and its subsidiaries violated records that Panasonic has in 4G technology.

For now, there is no forecast for the case to be heard. In any case, Panasonic can follow Nokia and file lawsuits in other countries as a way of putting pressure on the Chinese.

For those who don’t remember, Nokia managed to make OPPO stop selling smartphones in some markets because of these processes.
