SAN DIEGO — For the first time in a decade, Panama will be in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final following clinching a dramatic 2-1 victory following penalties in Wednesday’s semi-final.
The Americans, seven-time Gold Cup champions, had not missed a single meeting in the final since the 2015 edition of the tournament.
In total, this is the third appearance of Panama in the ultimate duel, following those of 2005 and 2013. It will be opposed to Mexico or Jamaica, who meet later on Wednesday.
Only three nations have won the Gold Cup since its inception, namely the United States, Mexico and Canada.
