The Panamanian team, which was also waiting to find out if the United States might beat Uruguay in the other group match, dominated the Bolivian team, although the latter put them in a difficult position at times with the partial tie.
José Fajardo opened the scoring in the first half for Panama, but Bolivia tied the score at 69′ through Bruno Miranda and although it was eliminated, it put its rival’s ticket in jeopardy.
At 79′ a header from Eduardo Guerrero restored hope for the Canaleros, while at 91′ César Yanis closed the scoring with a powerful shot for the final score of 3-1.
Panama thus achieved second place in Group C behind Uruguay; the United States was eliminated in third place and Bolivia finished last in the group.
Panama will face the leader of Group D (Colombia or Brazil), while Uruguay will face the team that comes second in that group.
