PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has issued a warning that Palmer Candy Company is recalling its “White Coated Confectionary Items” following concerns that they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall affects products distributed across the United States, both in retail stores and through wholesale channels.

Major retailers carrying the recalled items include Walmart, HyVee, Target, Dollar General and others.

The products are also distributed to specific states through wholesale distributors, including Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The company’s recall covers several packaging types, such as bags, pouches and tubs.

Consumers can find a detailed list of the affected products and see images of the packaging on the FDA’s website.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled confectionery products.

However, Salmonella is a serious concern as it can cause serious and potentially fatal infections, especially in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection can range from fever and abdominal pain to more serious conditions such as bloodstream infections and arterial infections.

The RIDOH advises consumers who have purchased the recalled items to avoid consumption and dispose of them immediately to prevent any potential health risks.
