Palestine – The Palestinian presidency announced yesterday, Tuesday, its welcome of the Chinese positions “calling for joint efforts to enable the State of Palestine to impose its jurisdiction and rule over its land in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.”
This came in a statement published by the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, in response to statements by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding the formation of a “temporary national reconciliation” government.
Earlier on Tuesday, China’s foreign minister said Palestinian factions had agreed in Beijing to form a “temporary national reconciliation” government focused on governing the Gaza Strip after the war.
Wang stressed that China will continue to work and make efforts with all parties concerned on Palestinian national unity based on the foundation of internal reconciliation.
On Monday, the Palestinian factions announced their agreement to reach a “comprehensive national unity” that includes all forces within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization and to form an interim national consensus government. This was in a statement issued at the conclusion of a national meeting hosted by Beijing between July 21 and 23, which included 14 Palestinian factions, at the official invitation of China.
The Palestinian presidency welcomed “the statements issued by the People’s Republic of China through its Foreign Minister, which are fully consistent with the Palestinian position and international legitimacy, and in which he called for a quick ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid (into Gaza).”
As well as “demanding joint efforts to enable the State of Palestine to impose its jurisdiction and rule over its land in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.”
The presidency praised “China’s efforts to help the State of Palestine obtain full membership in the United Nations, and hold an international peace conference to implement the two-state solution, which will lead to ending the (Israeli) occupation and embodying the establishment of the Palestinian state.”
China’s foreign minister said Tuesday that his country “supports Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations and begin implementing the two-state solution,” adding that “a more important, binding and effective international peace conference should be supported, as well as a timetable and roadmap for achieving this,” according to the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been waging a war on Gaza, resulting in about 129,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and deadly famine.
Tel Aviv continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice orders to end the invasion of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, take measures to prevent acts of genocide, and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the Strip.
