Bans or no bans, on October 5th the pro-Palestine people will take to the streets. After the notification of a stop by the Rome Police Headquarters, on the orders of the Interior Ministry, to the promoters of two separate events organized in the Capital, tension rises. The pro-Palestinian groups, in fact, did not like San Vitale’s measure and promise not to respect what they define as a “political ban” put in place by a government “accomplice” of Israel which uses “repression to silence any form of solidarity towards the Palestinian people”. The decision of the Police Headquarters, which came after an Order and Security Committee held at the Interior Ministry, considered the risks linked to public order represented by possible anti-Semitic fringes and celebration of the massacre committed on 7 October 2023 by Hamas against Israel. A date that pro-Palestine supporters define as “revolutionary” despite the Jews killed and kidnapped by the terrorist group.
Since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip in Rome, and throughout Italy, hundreds of demonstrations and marches have taken place in favor of the Palestinians during which, often, Hamas has been praised and Israeli flags have been burned. And after the list of pro-Israeli entities in Italy published by the New Communist Party, for some CARC defectors, the wave of hatred towards Jews is worrying.
