Palestine calls on the Security Council to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Palestine – The State of Palestine called on the UN Security Council, yesterday, Saturday, to immediately demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

She stressed the need for the UN Security Council and General Assembly to intervene to stop the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip.

This came in a letter sent to the Security Council by the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, according to the official Palestinian news agency, “Wafa.”

Mansour said in his letter that “the Security Council must take immediate action to demand a ceasefire in Gaza to stop the massacre, famine, displacement and destruction of an entire people, and to save what remains of the credibility of the United Nations and the entire international legal system.”

“The Security Council, the General Assembly and all peace-loving nations must act now to stop this escalation of terror, death and destruction that Israel is causing to the Palestinian people and the entire region, which is a serious threat to international peace and security,” he added.

“The world cannot remain indifferent to this brutality, inhumanity and depravity, and the Security Council cannot remain paralyzed waiting for Israel to suddenly decide to respect international law, while it publicly demonstrates that it does not respect the Charter, UN resolutions or any principle of law, and insists on tearing our people apart as it is doing now,” Mansour stressed.

He pointed out that “at least 100 Palestinian children, women and men, including many elderly people, were martyred (in an Israeli bombardment on Saturday) while they were gathered to perform the dawn prayer at the (Al-Tabi’in) school in Gaza City, which was sheltering thousands of displaced families.”

Mansour called for “holding Israel accountable for this heinous crime and for all other crimes against humanity it has committed in the extermination of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and over the years of illegal and inhumane occupation.”

He continued, “Those who continue to defend this genocide and provide Israel with an endless supply of weapons to kill, maim and destroy are partners in these crimes and are prolonging the bloodshed and terror.”

In this regard, he stressed the need for these countries to stop supplying Israel with weapons and stop supporting its genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

He considered that “Israel does not want a ceasefire, and will not negotiate in good faith” with the Palestinian factions in Gaza to stop the war and exchange prisoners.

He continued: “By words and actions, the politicians and leaders of the Israeli occupation army prove every day that they prefer to continue killing and destroying any glimmer of life in Gaza with political and material support from those who continue to justify such brutal and illegal behavior.”

The message from the Palestinian delegate comes at a time when Algeria announced that it “requested an emergency open session of the Security Council next Tuesday” to discuss the massacre committed by Israel through its bombing of the “Al-Tabi’een” school.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli army launched an airstrike on the “Al-Tabi’in” school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood in Gaza City, where displaced people fleeing Israeli military operations had taken refuge, killing at least 100 people and wounding dozens while they were performing the dawn prayer.

By targeting Al-Tabi’een School, the number of schools housing displaced persons that were bombed by the Israeli army in Gaza City alone in 10 days has risen to 7, leaving a large number of dead and wounded.
