DEPUTY Chief of Presidential Staff, Muhammad Qodari said that Prabowo Subianto’s government will not lead Indonesia to become an authoritarian country, but will continue to be committed to strengthening the continuity of democracy in Indonesia. This agenda, he said, is clearly stated in the first point of Asta Cita’s vision and mission.

“Democracy is one of the Prabowo government’s agendas. “The blood of democracy is strong in Prabowo, because he follows the rules of democracy and follows the patterns and principles of occupying public office through democratic means,” he said in a discussion entitled ‘Prospects for Indonesian Democracy during the Prabowo Subianto Government’ in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/11) .

According to Qodari, the democratic system in Indonesia is still running in the right direction, this is shown by the attitude of the elite who are able to compete constitutionally through elections to the direct electoral system which has continued since the reformation.

“Democracy is something that has been accepted by the political elite, including President Prabowo. “Democracy is consolidated, if elections run three times in a row, then the elites consider democracy to be the only way to achieve power, then our democracy is still working well,” he added.

Qodari claims that in the practice of democracy so far, Prabowo as an individual and president, is a strong supporter of democracy. Because, he said, Prabowo is always in the process of politics in Indonesia, not immediately becoming President of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Starting from let’s say if we talk about contestation, yes, as the simplest contestation, he took part in the Golkar Party convention. Then founded a political party, the Gerindra Party. Then he took part in the first contest as PDIP’s vice president, Mrs. Mega’s vice president. “Then he ran as a presidential candidate 3 times,” said Qodari.

Furthermore, Qodari said that Prabowo also had a very clear political contribution through the Gerindra Party. In fact, Prabowo also continues to give competing parties such as PDI-P the opportunity to take office and become the opposition.

“There are members of the DPR leadership, even the current Chair of the MPR is from the Gerindra Party. It’s in the commissions. How much is PDI-P now? Chairman of commission 4, who is representative of 14, and Chairman of the DPR from PDI-P. “So we can conclude that democracy is the only game in town, that is something we can conclude is something that has been accepted by our political elite,” he said.

According to Qodari, there are two things that are the basis for the democratic system in Indonesia currently still running well, namely the existence of the right to freedom in the economic field and ongoing political control.

“Political control functions with regular elections, the trias politica also runs so that the democratic cycle runs. “If asked what the prospects for democracy in Indonesia will be under this new government, let’s give the president and political parties the opportunity to carry out their duties,” he explained.
