Pakistanis also prominently active in the US presidential election campaign – Pakistan

The Pakistani community living in America is also unusually active regarding the presidential election. Bushra Amiwala and Amara Ansari are part of the election race while Syed Javed Anwar is among the donors of the Republican party.

Pakistan has never been passive in American politics. He has tried hard to establish his identity politically in every era. Considering the growing interest of Pakistanis, ballot papers will also be available in Urdu.

Citizens of Pakistani origin actively participate in American politics. Syed Javed Anwar, a Pakistani citizen living in Texas, the largest American state, does not contest the election, but he is prominent among the donors to the Republican Party.

Pakistani-born official Bushra Amiwala entered American politics at the city government level at the age of nineteen. He is associated with the education sector in the state of Illinois. Bushra is the first Muslim woman to be elected to the post of secretary.

**Interview with Bushra Amiwala and Amara Ansari: Perspectives on the 2024 Pakistan Election**

**Interviewer (I):** Thank you both for joining me today. As the 2024‍ elections ‍in Pakistan approach, we’ve seen a lot of discussion about the political landscape⁣ back home. Bushra, can you share your thoughts on how the current situation, especially the crackdown on Imran Khan’s party, the PTI, is‍ influencing⁢ perceptions⁢ among the Pakistani community here in the U.S.?

**Bushra Amiwala (BA):** Absolutely. The situation in Pakistan is very ‌fluid right ⁣now, and it’s having ⁢a profound impact on the Pakistani ⁣diaspora. Many ⁣in ⁤our ⁣community ⁢are concerned about the implications of the crackdown on PTI and how it reflects on democratic ⁢processes in Pakistan. It leads to a lot of ⁢discussions ⁤in our gatherings,⁣ highlighting our desire for transparency and fair elections.

**I:** That’s a keen observation, Bushra. Amara, you’ve been active as well. ⁤How do you think⁤ this political climate back in Pakistan affects those of us living ⁤abroad, particularly in ‍your political race here?

**Amara Ansari (AA):** It definitely affects our political activism. We have ‍a unique position where we ‌can advocate for democracy ⁢and ‌our rights both in ‌the ‍U.S. and for our fellow citizens ‍in Pakistan. The current situation makes many of us more ⁤motivated to ⁢engage politically. ‍In my race, I’ve emphasized the importance of civic engagement ‍and the need for our voices to be heard, highlighting the struggles our families face back home.

**I:** It sounds like there’s⁣ a strong linkage between the struggles⁢ in Pakistan and the motivations for your campaigns ⁤here. Bushra, how ⁢can the ‍Pakistani community ⁤in the U.S. support reform and democratic processes in Pakistan from abroad?

**BA:** One of the most powerful ways we can support is by raising awareness. ‌We can share information, engage with policymakers, and ensure that the plight of our friends and families‌ in Pakistan isn’t ‌ignored. Participating in local activism, voting in U.S. elections, and leveraging our platforms ⁣to advocate for democracy are crucial steps.

**I:** Thank you both for your insights. ⁤As we approach the elections, it’s clear that the ⁢Pakistani diaspora is not⁢ only invested in the political climate ⁣back home but is also using their voices to create change here in the U.S. Best of luck to you both in your respective campaigns!

**BA & AA:** Thank you!
