Pakistani players are friends after the game: Indian mixed martial arts fighter

For the first time in Pakistan, the Asian Championship of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is going on from Sunday.

A total of 16 countries are participating in the ongoing Asian Championship at Lahore DHA Sports Complex. More than 180 players, more than 100 officials and technical staff are participating in the competitions.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, South Indian player Belban, who participated in the championship, said that he regretted to lose but he got the opportunity to learn a lot.

He said, ‘It is a cruel game, but apart from the game, they have a friendly atmosphere and are especially friendly with the Pakistani players.’

Indian player Meena is also eager to compete with Pakistani women players in the final.

Talking to Independent Urdu, she said that she was a little nervous before coming to Pakistan, but her mind has changed after coming here.

‘The people here are very hospitable and wherever I stay, the staff make sure that I eat well and rest properly.’

He said that whatever the sport, the players become friends afterwards and that’s the advantage of going to another country that you make new friends.

Pakistani player Rizwan Haider Ali, who beat the Indian player, told Independent Urdu that ‘there is a great need for sponsors for the players so that they can easily play their game.’ He said that he has represented Pakistan nine times in other countries, but so far he has no sponsor.

‘Newcomers, keep working hard, keep going because Allah never wastes your hard work.’

President of Pakistan MMA Federation Umar Ahmad while talking to Independent Urdu praised the government that they had to come more than 180 players from different countries to make this championship possible and the rest of the staff was apart from that. So they were given 300 visas easily.

He said, ‘What is needed at this time is that sponsors connect with us, government institutions connect and make this game an economy and hold such championships again and again.’

The quarter-finals of the championship took place on Tuesday, in which players from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Bahrain, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Indonesia and India participated.

According to Qadir Khawaja, MMA’s head of media, there were a total of 33 fights in the quarterfinal bouts.

These competitions were held in 13 weight categories, while eight fighters from Pakistan participated in different weight categories.

These players include Abdul Manan, Zeeshan Akbar, Syed Qaim Abbas, Ayan Hussain, Mohammad Rashid, Shahab Ali, Khizr Rehman and Mohammad Dawood.

In the 61.2 kg category of the quarter-final stage, Ian Hussain of Pakistan was defeated by Mehri Saif Aluzuda of Tajikistan.

The first day of the championships also saw impressive performances from martial arts athletes from Iran, Bahrain and Georgia, who won their respective matches.

Pakistan’s Abbas Khan also performed brilliantly and defeated Egypt’s Adam Muhammad.

The final match of this Asian Championship will be held on August 22.
