A Pakistani man with a Hong Kong ID card stole beer from a convenience store three years ago and kicked the sixty-year-old clerk who was chasing him. As a result, the clerk died 2 days later due to serious head injuries. The Pakistani unemployed man was convicted of murder in the High Court last Thursday (2nd), and Judge Qiu Zhili of the Court of First Instance sentenced him to life imprisonment today (6th) according to the law. As for the theft that the defendant had admitted before the trial, the judge said that he had no criminal record of theft before this case. This kind of shop theft usually imposes a fine, but since the defendant has already been sentenced to life imprisonment, it is meaningless to impose a fine. He was sentenced to unconditional release on this charge.
The 30-year-old defendant, ISLAM Javed Iqbal, was born in Hong Kong, holds a Hong Kong identity card, and was unemployed at the time of the case. He was accused of stealing 2 cans of beer belonging to a convenience store on Chik Yeung Road, Yuen Long on December 28, 2019; and murdering Deng Zhongqiang, a 61-year-old man at the time, in Hong Kong on December 30, 2019. According to the prosecution plan, the deceased Deng Zhongqiang was an assistant clerk of the convenience store involved. On the evening of December 28, 2019, the defendant entered the convenience store to take beer, left without paying, and the deceased chased him out. Later, the two Indonesian women saw the deceased on Anning Road and were chased by the defendant. They saw the deceased fell to the ground and kicked on the head by the defendant. There was blood on the ground, and the deceased did not move following that. CCTV at the scene also captured the deceased slipping and falling while running, following which the defendant turned around and kicked him several times. The deceased was unconscious when an ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. He died two days later due to head injuries.
