Vakhri is to some extent inspired by the life of slain social media star Qandeel Baloch, but according to the producers, it is a complete fiction. Actress Faryal Mehmood is playing the role of Vakhri in the film.

Producer Abid Aziz Merchant, who agreed to the interview on the condition of broadcasting the interview following the official announcement by Vikhri’s Red Sea Film Festival, told Independent Urdu that the film industry of Pakistan and himself for ‘Red Sea Film’. Festival’ is significant, as he had been working on the film ‘Vakhri’ with its writer-director Iram Parveen Bilal since 2017.

Abid Aziz Merchant, the producer of Vakhri, said that ‘Though the Red Sea Film Festival is new, it belongs to our own region and they also want to make this festival bigger, as Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said many times that he Europe wants to see the Middle East, that’s why our films should have their world premiere there.’

Abid Merchant, producer of the film Vakhri, explained regarding Qandeel Baloch’s life being based on it, ‘It Qandil Baloch And all the people like her who can’t fit in this society, it’s on them and it’s a complete fiction film but in a way it’s a tribute to Qandeel Baloch but it’s not her biography.’

‘This is a modern day story, it was barely completed in August this year, it was a story that needed to be told.’

On the screening of this film in Pakistan, he said, ‘It is intended to be released at the beginning of next year because there are three censor boards in Pakistan and so far this film has passed from Sindh, now we are waiting for other censor boards, because It is desired that it can be exhibited all over the country at the same time.

The producer of Vikhri said that the Sindh Censor Board has taken some swipes at the film but they did not challenge it and as said, the film was edited accordingly.

According to him: ‘No one might have done the role of Vakhri better than Faryal Mehmood, the full potential of Faryal Mehmood has not yet been assessed in Pakistan.’

He expressed hope that the film will bring awards at the Vukhari Red Sea Film Festival, both by critics and public opinion.
