Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal got silver, cricket fans rejoiced

Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal’s request to reduce the three-year sentence has been approved.

According to the sources, Justice Retired Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, Independent Adjudicator at the National High Performance Center, pronounced the judgment of the case.

The PCB had sentenced Umar Akmal under the Anti-Corruption Code to a three-year ban for violations of the Code of Conduct, which Umar Akmal had challenged.

It should be noted that in 2018, Umar Akmal made a statement regarding match fixing, after which he faced criticism.

In an interview, he admitted that he was offered to fix matches in the 2015 World Cup.

This statement was taken immediate notice by the PCB, while the anti-corruption unit of the board was also activated. According to Umar Akmal, the one who offered him fixing is a former Test cricketer and is now based in America.

He had said that during the 2015 Cricket World Cup, some bookmakers had approached him for fixing and offered him attractive remuneration.

A day before the start of the Pakistan Super League Five, he was suspended and prevented from playing the match after receiving reports of fixing. After which Umar Akmal was sentenced after the allegations against him were proved.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had imposed a three-year ban on cricketer Umar Akmal on April 17, 2020, while he was provisionally suspended on February 20, 2020.
