Pakistan PM accepts court ruling ordering impeachment vote

The Pakistani Prime Minister announced, عمران خانOn Friday, he accepted the ruling of the country’s Supreme Court, which ordered Parliament to proceed with a vote of no confidence in him.

In a speech to the people, Khan said he was disappointed but eventually agreed to the court’s decision, following he blocked the vote and dissolved parliament last week.

On Thursday, the court ruled that what he had done was unconstitutional, and ordered Parliament to convene on Saturday.

A judicial panel of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday ruled that the decision of the Speaker of Parliament to annul the vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Khan was invalid.

The court considered the president’s decisions to dissolve the government and parliament and call for early elections on the recommendation of the prime minister to be null and void.

Khan, a former cricket star, lost his majority in parliament last week and was facing a motion of no-confidence from the opposition.

But the deputy speaker of parliament, a member of Khan’s party, rejected the move, which Khan was widely expected to lose, saying it was part of a foreign conspiracy and unconstitutional.

In turn, the Pakistani army announced that it was not involved in politics, following a state of tension prevailed in the country.
