Pakistan on the Cusp of 5G Revolution: Exclusive Timeline Unveiled

Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman has said that 5G service will be introduced in the country by April 2025.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman has told the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom that 5G service will be introduced in the country by April 2025. A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom was held on Thursday.

Chairman PTA while giving a briefing said that efforts are being made to attract new companies through this auction so as to expand the market and increase competition.

The PTA Chairman also informed the meeting that the restoration of the submarine cable is in progress and it is expected that the restoration will be completed by August 27.

Despite the upgrade of internet services, no further disruption is expected, which will provide better internet services to the users.

Currently, telecom companies are using 265 MHz spectrum. PTA plans to make available an additional 567 MHz of spectrum for 5G services, to provide wider bandwidth for the new technology and provide better quality services to consumers.

Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman added that Saudi Arabia had sold its spectrum at $90,000 per megahertz, while Pakistan had sold 4G spectrum at $29 million per megahertz.

PTA’s keeping the price of spectrum low reflects an effort to provide better services to local consumers.
