Karachi: The Pakistan team won by 102 runs in the fourth ODI in Karachi once morest New Zealand and became the first in the ODI rankings. This is the first time since January 2005 that the ICC has officially started issuing the rankings, the Pakistan team has secured the world number one ODI position.
Before the start of the series on April 27, Babar Azam and co were fifth in the ODI rankings, with New Zealand second.
With the conclusion of the fourth match of the series once morest New Zealand, they topped the table with a rating of 113.483, ahead of Australia (113.286) and India (112.638). But they need to win the fifth and final ODI to retain the top spot. A loss would see them drop to third place and Australia regaining top spot.
Skipper Babar Azam’s century (107 off 117 balls) led Pakistan to 334-6 in 50 overs in Friday’s match. In reply, the Kiwis were bowled out for 232 runs in 43.4 overs. Babar Azam also holds the record of being the fastest player to complete 5,000 runs in ODIs.
The fifth and final ODI will be played at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday. If they win this match, Pakistan team can sweep the series and retain the top position in the rankings.
