Scotland Prime Minister (First Minister) of Pakistani origin Hamza Yusuf He has resigned from his post on Monday.
He has been facing calls to resign since the SNP informally scrapped a power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens in the Scottish Parliament last week, according to French news agency AFP.
His government had previously abandoned targets for zero carbon emissions, angering the Greens.
The opposition Scottish Conservative Party then tabled a vote of no confidence in Youssef, which was due to take place on Wednesday and which threatened to see the First Minister lose.
The Scottish Labor Party also tabled another no-confidence vote against his government.
Yusuf, the first Muslim leader of a major political party in Britain, said in a statement that he thinks victory is absolutely possible.
But he added that he was ‘unwilling to trade his values or principles or make a pact with anyone just to maintain power.’

He further said that ‘I have come to the conclusion that new leadership is needed to bridge the gap between us in politics.’
Yusuf’s SNP has 63 members in the 129-seat parliament, two short of a majority.
Yusuf had initially said that he had no intention of resigning and that he intended to seek a vote of confidence.
But now after his resignation, Parliament has 28 days to elect a new minister.
They were also under pressure because of controversial new laws, which criminalized hate speech against a number of groups, including transgender people.
This law has been heavily criticized. Prominent among the critics is ‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling.
