Pak spy agency ISI interfering in Sikh affairs in India: Report

New Delhi: Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI is making more efforts to control the running of Sikh shrines in Pakistan and Sikh affairs in India, according to top intelligence sources. In January, the Pakistan government appointed an ISI officer as the CEO of the Project Management Unit in this regard and tasked him with overseeing Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, sources said.

Reportedly, ISI sent pro-Khalistan leader and ‘Waris Punjab De’ Amritpal Singh to India after training him in Sikhism and history. It is reported that before coming to India from Dubai, Amritpal Singh had visited Georgia and may have studied there. The ISI wanted a ‘flesh and blood’ idol to fan the flames of Khalistani separatism in Punjab. There are reports that an ISI is building a ‘brand and cult’ around Amritpal and is helping him with his social media campaign.

Recently, in the incident of Amritpal Singh’s supporters attacking the Ajnala police station, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had alleged that the Khalistan activists were getting help from countries including Pakistan.
