Last summer, Mitsubishi Motors stopped production of Pajero SUVs and closed the Pajero Manufacturing factory. Built back in 1943, it was later repurposed twice and gradually became the largest enterprise in Gifu Prefecture. After numerous upgrades, its capacity has reached 170 thousand cars annually. In addition to the Pajero itself, Outlander models were produced here (part of the total circulation) and Delica D:5, their production is transferred to the plant in Okazaki. In August, the plant was mothballed and put up for sale, but only now a buyer has been found.

They became the Japanese corporation Daio Paper, which occupies 30% of the hygiene supplies market in the country. It is these goods that will be produced within the walls of the former Pajero Manufacturing factory – toilet paper and paper towels. By the way, two years ago we were in Autoreview told in detail regarding how such production works. According to Japanese media, Daio Paper Corporation paid 4 billion yen ($33.6 million) for the Gifu plant. The re-equipment of the plant will take a whole year: the start of the production of paper products is scheduled for March 2023.

Prior to this, Mitsubishi closed a plant in Japan in 2001. And in 2015, an enterprise in the city of Normal (Illinois) was stopped, but it was soon bought out by Rivian and organized there is the production of electric vehicles.
