Arianna Reyes-Gómez, 31, a Dominican NYPD police officer, died this Monday as a result of the stab wounds her ex-partner gave her when she showed up at her apartment. Their heated argument left their three-year-old son in common without her mother, and her father behind bars.
After committing the crime, Argenis de Jesús Báez, also a Dominican, turned himself in at a police station, where he awaits being informed of the charges once morest him.
The same day, another 79-year-old Dominican woman died at the hands of her husband, in an incident that occurred in Upper Manhattan, the causes of which are still unknown.
“There was no history of violence”
Regarding the case of Arianna Reyes, the police assured that there was no history of domestic violence between the couple, and police sources indicated that Argenis de Jesús has no prior arrests and only one traffic violation.
Reyes was stabbed to death by Argenis in an apartment on the Grand Concourse near East 156th Street in the Bronx early Monday morning, with a trail of blood leading police to her body, authorities and law enforcement sources said.
At some point during the domestic dispute, which turned deadly, Reyes-Gomez phoned a relative, who then called 911 and dispatched police to the scene, law enforcement sources said.
When officers got there around 2:50 a.m., they found blood in the hallway leading to the apartment and, following breaking down the door, found Reyes-Gomez unconscious, law enforcement sources said.
Relatives describe her “like an angel”
“I am devastated and I ask God for a lot of strength so that my family and I can bear his loss,” Reyes-Gomez’s sister told the New York Post newspaper. “I might always count on her through thick and thin. I can say that she was an extremely good person with a big heart, her heart was clean and pure, she was one of the few good and sincere people that you can find in this world, ”the sister continued.
The New York police also lamented the fact through their social networks.
“Today we tragically lost one of our NYDO members, Police Officer Arianna Reyes-Gomez. Our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Police Officer Arianna Reyes Gómez during this difficult time,” wrote the Dominican Officers Association of New York.
