Padrino López assured that the majority decision will be respected

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López said on Sunday, July 28, that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces are guaranteeing the safety of all citizens participating in the elections.

After exercising his right to vote in the presidential elections taking place in the country, the minister reported that as of 12:00 noon no incidents had been reported.

Speaking to the media, Padrino López said that all Venezuelans “can go out to vote safely because the FANB guarantees their safety.” He also highlighted that other “security agencies are guaranteeing peace throughout the national territory.”

Regarding the election results, he assured that the decision of the majority will be respected. “The rules of democracy are written, they are more than known (…) President Nicolás Maduro was the first to say that he will recognize the results. Democracy is respecting the majorities,” he said.

“President Nicolás Maduro has set an example in this regard. From the beginning he called on all actors, all candidates, to respect the results once the process is over, to respect the results of the referee,” said Padrino López.

He said that so far there have been no major incidents at the polling stations, and that he hopes that the vote “ends as it is happening right now, in peace, with civility, with tranquility, with a lot of patience.”
