The Padres reached an agreement with free agent reliever Wandy Peralta on Wednesday, agreeing to a four-year, $16.5 million contract with the left-hander, according to multiple reports. The club has not confirmed the deal, which is pending a physical and includes three options that would allow Peralta to opt out, according to The Athletic.
Peralta, 32, is coming off the best season of his eight-year career, having posted a 1.4 WAR with 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings over 54 innings with the Yankees.
Peralta will add depth to a Padres bullpen that has undergone considerable renovation this offseason. They lost free agent Josh Hader (he signed with the Astros), but added South Korean right-hander Woo-Suk Go, Japanese left-hander Yuki Matsui and right-handers Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez in the trade for Dominican Juan Soto with the Yankees.
