Paddy Pimblett wins $200,000 bonus
Paddy Pimblett claimed his sixth straight UFC victory when he made his biggest breakthrough yet against Bobby Green in Manchester. The Briton looked solid in the early interactions and capitalized on his considerable size advantage throughout the evening.
Green appeared to be much smaller than the stats suggested when they faced each other, and he was likely surprised by how good Paddy had become on his feet. Which was perhaps what led to a shocking move, when the American decided to try for a takedown, giving Pimblett the chance to reach a guillotine. From there, “The Baddy” managed to get a triangle, which ended the match and left Green unconscious.
The result reinvigorated a crowd that had started to fade due to the late hour, with the main card’s matches starting as late as 5am.
After the match, Pimblett was awarded two bonuses for his performance, which together with his new contract meant it was likely to be a very lucrative morning for Pimblett. UFC Europe shared a video after the fight in which he celebrates and declares that his twin children will receive “$100,000 each.”
Dana White’s tribute after the match
After the event, Dana White was critical of several of the night’s fighters, noting a string of back-to-back decisions. These results were tempered by Pimblett and Aspinall delivering big wins late in the evening before a five-round decision in the main event as well.
During the post-gala press conference, the UFC boss had a lot to say about Paddy Pimblett:
– Paddy is one of those guys that everyone talks shit about and everyone wants to challenge. He keeps winning and he looked damn good tonight, that’s why he got $200,000.
White went on to say this:
– I mean, I don’t think Bobby Green has been strangled since like 2009. So congratulations to him, that’s a guy who came out tonight looking like he wanted an extra $100,000.
