The highly anticipated Copinha 2025 final will be held at São Paulo’s Pacaembu Stadium, but not as originally planned. Due to ongoing renovations, the event will take place with a temporary operating license, similar to the five test events held in the latter half of 2024.
“The Copinha 2025 final will be held with a temporary operating license, just like the last five test events held in the second half of 2024. After the City Hall issues the definitive acceptance term for the mandatory works, we will issue the permanent operating license,” officials from Allegra, the company managing the stadium, stated.
There were initial plans to host the 2024 Copinha final at the newly renovated Pacaembu, but limited audience capacity (estimated at 5,000 people),posed a challenge, leading to its postponement. “There was the intention of hosting the 2024 copinha final, but at that time it was an event that woudl be held with limited audience capacity (it would be around 5 thousand people). It was a great desire from the dealership, but unfortunately it was not possible,” they explained.
The concession contract for the stadium was signed in September 2019, but the project faced unexpected delays. “The concession contract was signed in September 2019, and there was a pandemic that lasted two years,” Allegra officials acknowledged.
Despite the setbacks, the entire Pacaembu complex is expected to be fully renovated and ready to host the Copinha final by January 25th, 2025. The renovations prioritize accessibility, incorporating modern features absent in the original 1940 design. Over 40,000 square meters of built area have been added, restoring iconic sports equipment and creating a welcoming space for all. “From this January 25th, we will be delivering an entirely renovated sports complex, 100% aligned with accessibility expectations that were not in the original 1940 project and with an addition of more than 40 thousand square meters of built area that restores iconic sports equipment of São Paulo and invites São Paulo residents and Brazilians to an inclusive, democratic and plural access,” the statement concluded.
Weatherproof Competition
Heavy rains recently lashed the city of São Paulo, but luckily, the Pacaembu Stadium and its field stood strong against the downpour, remaining unharmed. While Capivari Street, which slopes steeper than the stadium grounds, experienced significant flooding, the impact on the venue was minimal.
