The Executive Board of the All Indonesia Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) stated that the male weightlifter who won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Rizki Juniansyah, can still be relied on to excel at the next Olympics.

“Rizki is 21 years old, for another four years (2028 Olympics), he is still very capable,” said Secretary General of PB PABSI Djoko Pramono, Wednesday (14/8).

Rizki Juniansyah made history as the first gold medal winner in weightlifting for Indonesia when he appeared in the men’s 73 kg class at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The lifter from Banten managed to lift a total of 354 kg in the form of a snatch lift of 155 kg and a clean and jerk lift of 199 kg. His achievement in the clean and jerk lift made Rizki successfully break the Olympic record.

Rizki added to the medal collection for the Indonesian team at the world’s highest sporting competition in Paris to three medals in the form of two gold medals (one gold medal was won by rock climber Veddriq Leonardo) and one bronze medal was won by women’s singles badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Djoko said, Rizki is a young athlete who can be relied upon to make achievements again in the next Olympics. Rizki can still appear in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics when he is 25 years old.

He said the most important thing to do next is to maintain and improve the athlete’s performance to be better than previous achievements.

“The parent organization just has to maintain it properly,” he said.

Djoko added that in order for sporting achievements to be achieved sustainably, athlete cadreship must also continue, not only in sports that have won Olympic medals but in all sports.

“I am sure that in 2028 (Los Angeles Olympics) we will win more (medals), God willing,” he concluded. (Ant/Z-1)
