Pablo Simonet’s marriage proposal to Pilar Campoy in Paris 2024

They just started the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Argentina now has a reason to celebrate. Taking advantage of one of the last days of rest in the Olympic Village, Pablo Simoneta player of the men’s handball team, proposed to Pilar Campoya player from Las Leonas.

Simonet and Campoy have been a couple since 2015 and already shared Olympic experience in Rio 2016. After nine years of relationship, the city of love was the ideal setting to take the next step.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are also very special for them, as the two national teams secured their places just minutes apart for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games… and 130 kilometres apart.

When Pilar Campoy returned to the locker room after celebrating the agonising victory in the final against the United States, she grabbed her mobile phone and saw that she had a message from Simonet: the handball team had also won gold and an Olympic quota.

“[Pablo] He left me a message when he came into the locker room. I didn’t know anything and it was doubly exciting,” Pilar Campoy told Olympics.com“I knew he had a very tough match, just like us, and finding out that they also won was spectacular.”

Paris 2024 could also be the Olympic farewell for Pilar Campoy, who returned to Las Leonas for one last adventure.

“Obviously I had the doors open, but I was living my life [en España]”Campoy explained. “But after the call I didn’t hesitate. I talked to Pablito and told him, ‘I want to end my career in the best way possible.'”

The marriage proposal was the best way to start Paris 2024.
