Pablo López had a great performance against the New York Mets

Matt Wallner hit a two-run homer and came within inches of another for the Minnesota Twins, who finally won a game in New York by beating the Mets 8-3 on Sunday.

Byron Buxton homered and Venezuelan Pablo Lopez (10-7) pitched six innings of three-hit ball as Minnesota avoided a sweep in the three-game series.

The Twins were outscored 39-13 and lost their first five games of the season in New York, to the Yankees and Mets. It was Minnesota’s first win at Citi Field since April 9, 2019.

Wallner’s homer capped a five-run third inning, which saw Dominican Luis Severino (7-4) allow five consecutive hits. In the fifth, the outfielder came close.

Center fielder Tyrone Taylor reached over the fence and deflected the ball, but didn’t catch it. Wallner settled for a double.

For the Mets, Venezuelans Luis Torrens went 1-for-1 with one run scored and Francisco Álvarez went 0-for-4.

FREDDY FERMÍN SENT HER FLYING AWAY

Venezuelan Freddy Fermin hit a two-run homer as part of a four-hit performance, and the Kansas City Royals routed the Chicago White Sox 10-3 on Monday, extending their streak of consecutive losses to 17. It is the worst streak in franchise history.

Vinnie Pasquantino added a two-run shot and finished with three RBIs. Venezuelan Salvador Perez totaled three hits and drove in two runs for Kansas City, which won its third straight game.

Major league batting leader Bobby Witt Jr. extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two infield singles. He raised his average to .349.
