Archyde’s Senior Music Journalist, vitaminSHOTS, caught up with Hip-Hop legend ozols as he prepares for his highly anticipated concert with Wiesulis at the Zemgale Olympic Center in Jelgava on February 28th.
vitaminSHOTS (VS): Ozols, thank you for taking the time to speak with us today.Fans are beyond excited for your upcoming concert with Wiesulis.How does it feel to finally share the stage with someone who has been an influence on your own career?
Ozols (O): Thanks for having me. You no, it’s truly a honor to finally collaborate with Wiesulis. we’ve both been moving in our separate orbits, leaving our marks on the Latvian hip-hop scene, but we’ve never had the chance to combine our energies. So, yeah, I’m really looking forward to it.
VS: Speaking of marks on the scene, your career spans over two decades. Looking back, what would you say has been the most notable change you’ve witnessed in Latvian hip-hop?
O: The most significant change? I’d have to say the internet and how it’s democratized music consumption and creation.Back in the day, hip-hop in Latvia was mostly underground and localized. Now, thanks to streaming services and social media, our music can reach people all around the world.
VS: That’s an interesting point. Your concert promises a dynamic look back at your career, from your early stuff in 2000 to the present. What can fans expect from that journey?
O: Well, I want to take them through the evolution of my sound and style. I’ll be playing songs that reflect different periods of my life and career. Some tracks will be old classics that everyone knows, while others will be newer, never-before-heard tracks. It’s going to be a party of my journey so far.
VS: And Wiesulis will be joining you on this journey, adding his own flavor to the mix. How have rehearsals been going?
O: (laughs) Rehearsals have been…interesting. In the best way possible. We’re both used to being in the spotlight, so finding our rhythm together has been a challenge, but a fun one. I think our contrasting styles are really going to make for an unforgettable show.
VS: That’s what we’re all hoping for. Now, aside from this monumental concert, what else do you have planned for 2025?
O: I’m working on a new album, actually. It’s still in the early stages, but I’m really excited about the direction it’s taking. And, of course, I’ll be continuing to collaborate with Wiesulis. This concert is just the beginning of something special.
VS: We can’t wait to see what you both do next. Thank you, ozols, for your time and for always keeping Latvian hip-hop fresh and exciting.
